Marketing during the Super Bowl

The Super Bowl is the annual championship of the National Football League or NFL for short. It’s the largest American Football event of the year and it has more than 100 million viewers which is almost a third of the population of the USA. It’s the most watched event in the USA which makes it also the most important marketing event of the year. This explains why advertisers have to pay over 5 million dollar for just 30 seconds of screen time.

A lot of companies used their advertising time to advocate their company values and their view on society. Take for example Coca-Cola. They made a video around their famous “there’s a Coke for everyone” slogan, showing people of all kinds of different backgrounds drinking and sharing a bottle of Coke. Coca-Cola clearly wants to be seen as a company that supports diversity.
Another brand that wants to highlight its social responsibility is Budweiser. Normally Budweiser is a beer brand but after the natural disasters of last year in Texas, Florida and California they provided canned water for people who were in need of aid.

Of course not all companies made spots about these heavy subjects. Amazon.com has made a funny commercial where Alexa (their famous personal assistant device) has lost her voice so they let famous people like Gordon Ramsey or Anthony Hopkins replace her for the day with all its consequences.
